Adam Morley, St. Augustine, Florida, Eco-Tours boat captain and dedicated environmentalist runs about 12 free boat trips a month on the “LitterGitter.” The trips are designed to educate volunteers about the beauty of the Matanzas River and encourage them to pick up the trash that washes up on the sand. Participants scramble off the boat at several locations to comb the local beaches for plastic and other debris that endangers our entire ecosystem.
On Friday October 18th, Friends from our meeting were invited by Richelle Ogle, Clerk of the St. Augustine Friends Meeting, to climb aboard the Litter Gitter for a hands-on coastal clean up experience. The boat is housed in Crescent Beach at the historic Genungs Fish Camp. The local bait shop at Genungs now carries a line of plastic-free daily use items.
